Coinky-dinks

Remember those good ol' World's Finest Chocolate bars that we use to sell as students?  Some of my students from karate school was selling them and I bought a dark chocolate one for Nancy, which she loved so much.  When I wanted to buy more, they had already stopped selling, which was a bummer.  I was telling this story to John (my friend and boss) and we were talking about how they're now half the size of what they used to be for the same price.  Makes sense because of inflation, right?

Lost in Translation

Recently, while shopping on a hungry tummy, I bought these frozen Chinese Beef Pies. To my delight, it included English cooking instructions and they were quite simple:

"No need to defrost, place small quantity of oil into frying pan. When oil heats up, place pie into frying pan and add one cup of water then cover pan. Cook at medium heat for 11 minutes, also turn the pie at time."

$5k spent on studying Chinese, and I've probably returned $3k of it back to my teachers. It wasn't that I didn't have the people to practice the language with, but there seems to be difficulty in getting them to speak it with me. Back when I was in Vegas whenever I meet native Chinese speakers and though they know that I can speak it, we would always still converse in English.

Good ol' Vegas Trip

Last weekend ,I flew to Las Vegas for training.  Well, the training was on Tuesday, but I spent the weekend with the family. So much fun.  Haven't seen them for at least a year.  So...what happened?  Well, let's start with my trip to the airport from Round Rock.  As I was driving to the airport at 5 in the morning, I was just reaching the airport when I remembered that I forgot to pack my medicines! DOH!

So busy these last couple of weekends.  Two weekends ago, Nancy and I drove up to Dallas with the intentions to go to Six Flags and Fright Fest while hanging out with Teresa and watch Paranormal 1 and 2.  What happened instead?  Well, we decided to wake up whenever and figure we would sleep until 11AM, maybe 12PM.  Teresa had a massage appointment at 10 and should b back by noon, so we decided it'd be smart to wait for her and go do lunch together before we head out to the park.  We ended up waking up at 9:30AM but still decided to wait for Teresa for lunch.  We went and ate All You Can Eat
